A NOTE FROM THE SOCIETY OF THE BLIND OF MALAYSIA

On behalf of the blind community in Malaysia, the Society of the Blind in Malaysia (SBM) welcomed and is pleased to learn that our request to allow the blind voters to bring our relative or friend, whom we trust to assist us during ballot has been accepted by the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) on Electoral Reform, and recommended to the Parliament for approval. With this move, the blind now, will be able to cast their vote in confidence knowing that our choice will be followed by our trusted helper.

SBM would like to thank the PSC for listening and empathize with us on the difficulty the blind faced during ballot. The PSC was chaired by YB Dato’ Seri Panglima Dr. Maximus Johnity Ongkili and its members consist of YB Dato’ Seri Mohd Radzi bin Sheikh Ahmad, YB Tan Sri Dr. Fong Chan Onn, YB Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, YB Kamalanathan a/l Panchanathan, YB Mohamed Azmin Ali, YB Loke Siew Fook, YB Dr. Mohd Hatta Md. Ramli and YB Wee Choo Keong.

We hope that the recommendation can be implemented at the 13th GE without any opposition from all parties.

SBM would also like to call upon all registered blind voters to come out and vote for our chosen candidate in the coming GE to ensure the future of our country. To those that yet to be registered themselves due to the lack of confidence in our electoral system; SBM urged all of you to register yourself in order not to miss your voting right in view of the fact that our request has been accepted by the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) on Electoral Reform
